Crazy for Corduroy!

You know the corduroy in your memory — stiff, swooshy, itchy. Forget all about THAT. 

This season's cord is fine-wale, soft-handed, and has actual stretch. Some of our brands are calling it "cord-velvet" because that's genuinely closer to how it feels. Lightweight warmth, real drape, zero noise when you walk.

What to look for when you shop corduroy:

Check the wale. Wale = the width of the ridges. Fine-wale is what you want for everyday wearability — softer, better drape, and what's earning the "cord-velvet" comparison this season.

Feel for stretch. A little spandex or elastane in the blend means it moves with you instead of holding a crease. Squeeze the fabric: if it springs back, that's your sign. Listen for the swoosh (or lack of it). Old-school corduroy announces itself when you walk. Silent when the fabric brushes together? That's the finer weave. Think warmth without bulk. The ridged texture traps air, so it runs warmer than a flat-woven cotton of the same weight — without needing a heavy fabric to do it. A smart transitional layer for fall into winter. 

Color depth. Corduroy's texture catches light differently than flat fabrics, so rich colors — mustard, crimson, coffee brown — look more saturated and dimensional.
